Kyle Busch's Legacy Lives On As Son Brexton Takes Big Step

2026-07-01 · Kyle Busch · Player Focus

Kyle Busch's son Brexton, 11, has taken a big step in the racing world nearly two weeks after his dad's stunning death.

Brexton returned to the racetrack on Tuesday for the first time since his dad's death, running practice laps at Charlotte Motor Speedway ahead of the CookOut Summer Shootout.

Kyle Busch, 41, died unexpectedly late last month after a battle with pneumonia turned into sepsis.

The NASCAR legend was a two-time Cup champion and had 234 victories across all three NASCAR national series.

Brexton has been an up-and-coming racer for some time now, with his dad spending much of his own racing season following him around during the week.

A private memorial was held for Kyle Busch on Tuesday afternoon, with a public memorial to take place later this year.

The family announced that Richard Childress Racing would suspend the use of Kyle Busch's No. 8 until Brexton is eligible to use it.

Brexton would be eligible to race in the Truck Series when he turns 16, and the age limit to race in the NASCAR Cup Series is 18.

Kyle Busch's final NASCAR win came at Dover one week before his death, when he led 147 laps in a dominating Truck Series victory on May 14.

Samantha Busch, Kyle's wife, has been documenting life with both Kyle and Brexton racing on social media.

Earlier this year, Brexton raced against his dad for the first time at the Tulsa Shootout.

The NASCAR community is still reeling from the loss of Kyle Busch, with many paying tribute to the legendary driver.

Kyle Busch was instrumental in the design of RCR's stylized No. 8, and it has become synonymous with him and an important symbol for his fans and the NASCAR industry.

Brexton's return to racing is a significant step for the young driver, and many are eager to see how he will follow in his dad's footsteps.

The CookOut Summer Shootout is set to take place at Charlotte Motor Speedway, with Brexton looking to make a strong impression in his first race back since his dad's death.
