LeBron James Weighs Final NBA Team as Agent Reveals 10 Contenders

2026-07-13 · LeBron James · Transfer

LeBron James is actively evaluating his final NBA destination, with agent Rich Paul revealing a list of 10 teams on his "Game Over" podcast on 8 Jul 2026. Paul shared detailed scouting-style breakdowns of each option, confirming James has not yet made a decision but is seriously weighing his next move.

Rich Paul named the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Philadelphia 76ers as top contenders. Bob Myers, president of the 76ers’ ownership group, publicly pitched to Paul on the same podcast. Other teams received voice notes from NBA executives, all passed along to James.

Cleveland offers the most emotional farewell. James led the Cavs to their first NBA title in 2016 and four straight Finals from 2015 to 2018. The organization has signaled willingness to restructure cap space to sign him beyond the veteran’s minimum. Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley give the roster playoff credibility, and James would be central to elevating them further.

Miami added Giannis Antetokounmpo, reshaping their identity. James would pair with elite defenders Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, easing his defensive load. The Heat can offer more than minimum deals, unlike some rivals. But their roster lacks shooting after trading Tyler Herro, and the emotional connection won’t match Cleveland’s.

A reunion with Stephen Curry now seems plausible. James and Curry faced off in four straight Finals from 2015 to 2018, but their relationship has softened since the Paris Olympics. The Warriors’ cap space is tight, and their core is aging. Still, the narrative of a final chapter with a former rival holds weight.

Paul confirmed James isn’t handicapping any team yet. He and the Lakers mutually parted ways after eight seasons, ending his longest tenure with one franchise. James wants a team that maximizes his impact, respects his legacy, and offers realistic title chances. He’s not rushing: and won’t decide "any time soon," Paul said last week.

NBA executives are still sending voice notes. The Heat and Cavs are pushing hardest. James will likely wait until late August or September, when training camps begin, to make his move. His final season will be a spectacle: and every team on Paul’s board knows it.
