Logan Paul reacts to Norway's World Cup exit, backs Erling Haaland

2026-07-14 · Logan Paul · Player Focus

Logan Paul has weighed in on Norway’s FIFA World Cup quarterfinal defeat to England, siding with Erling Haaland after Alexander Sørloth’s controversial decision not to pass the ball. The WWE star expressed frustration on X, calling it a missed opportunity that cost Norway the match.

Norway faced England in a tense quarterfinal on July 12, 2026, losing 2-1 after extra time. The turning point came when Sørloth, instead of passing to Haaland, chose to shoot. His effort was blocked, and England capitalized to secure victory.

Paul, known for his wrestling career and social media presence, posted on X: “I keep seeing that clip of the dude not passing the ball & I’m so gutted for Haaland. The entire country of Norway lost because one guy wanted to have a moment.” His comments echoed widespread frustration among fans.

Sørloth defended his decision, telling Reuters that England’s defense had cut off passing lanes to Haaland earlier in the game. The Atlético Madrid forward felt shooting was the better option. Haaland later supported his teammate’s explanation.

After the match, Sørloth faced online abuse, including harmful messages. His partner revealed some even encouraged self-harm. Norway’s coach, Ståle Solbakken, condemned the abuse and urged players to avoid social media during emotional moments.

Rumors also spread that Haaland had unfollowed Sørloth on Instagram, though this was not confirmed. Despite the controversy, FIFA noted England’s strong defensive performance, keeping Haaland quiet for the first time in the tournament.
