Luka Dončić broke his silence when Kevin Durant’s name arrived, admitting Durant is a better shooter. Kevin Durant has been a prolific scorer, winning two NBA championships and four scoring titles.
The Lakers’ star guard has averaged 46.9% shooting from the field and 35.2% from the three-point range in his career. His field goal shooting numbers are almost similar to arguably the best shooter in history, Stephen Curry.
Luka Dončić wants the Lakers to acquire an A-list center and build a championship-caliber team around him as soon as possible, per NBA analyst Dave McMenamin. The Lakers have been telling Luka since acquiring him that they planned to go all-in during the summer of 2026.
On 18 Jun, NBA analyst Dave McMenamin reported, “Luka wants to be a championship team yesterday, a source close to Doncic said. Ever since the trade, they’ve always told us: ‘summer of ’26. We’ll show you in the summer of ’26.’ So, we are so excited that the summer of ’26 is here.”
The 2025-26 season ended in a playoff disappointment for the Lakers, despite finishing third in the regular season. However, the Lakers’ front office will look to build a strong team around Luka Doncic after franchise superstar LeBron James already passed the baton.
The Lakers have the likes of Dončić, Austin Reaves, LeBron James, Rui Hachimura, and Marcus Smart as their top talents. Adding an A-lister center would really help the case, as Dončić recently revealed the two types of players who can enhance his game.
