Luke Humphries has set his sights on a blockbuster World Matchplay 2026 final against Luke Littler, calling it the 'dream draw' to prove himself as the best in darts. The 2024 champion, who opens his campaign against Cameron Menzies on July 18, says beating Littler would add 'extra sparkle' to another major title.

Humphries and Littler have become darts’ fiercest rivals, with the 'Cool Hand' winning four of their last five meetings. The pair have already clashed in a World Championship final and Premier League decider, making another high-stakes showdown inevitable. 'This rivalry is going to go on for many years,' Humphries said. 'One minute I’m winning four out of five, then he’ll probably win four out of five.'

Why the Matchplay matters

The Winter Gardens tournament is the second-biggest event in darts, and Humphries knows better than most how tough it is to defend a title. He lost in the first round in 2025 to Gian van Veen, ending his reign as champion. 'It’s never a nice feeling when you’re trying to retain your trophy,' he admitted. 'But I know I had one of the toughest draws last year.'
