Marco Bezzecchi Apologizes After Altercation with Track Marshal

2026-06-30 · Marco Bezzecchi · Player Focus

Marco Bezzecchi, the MotoGP World Championship leader, apologized on Sunday for his altercation with a track marshal during Saturday's Sprint race at the Czech Republic Grand Prix.

The incident occurred when Bezzecchi crashed and attempted to rejoin the race, surrounded by marshals trying to lift his bike.

He lost his temper and struck one of the track officials twice.

The footage clearly shows Bezzecchi swinging his arm and hitting a marshal in the face, and then repeating the action.

The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) issued a statement announcing Bezzecchi's suspension from the main race of the Czech Republic Grand Prix.

Aprilia subsequently filed an appeal, but it was rejected, confirming Bezzecchi's suspension.

Bezzecchi took to social media to publicly apologize and express his regret over his behavior.

He also met the marshal he struck in person on Sunday morning to apologize, and the atmosphere quickly eased.

The marshal accepted Bezzecchi's apology, and the two embraced for several seconds.

On June 21, Bezzecchi had 180 points, 15 ahead of second-placed Jorge Martín, in the MotoGP World Championship.

Bezzecchi's suspension means he will miss Sunday's Czech Republic Grand Prix.

The Aprilia Racing rider acknowledged the importance of marshals' safety efforts and expressed his gratitude for their work.

Bezzecchi's apology has been widely praised, and he is expected to return to racing soon.

The incident has sparked a conversation about rider behavior and the importance of respecting track officials.

The MotoGP community has come together to support Bezzecchi and the marshal involved in the incident.

The Czech Republic Grand Prix continued on Sunday without Bezzecchi, who will look to bounce back from his suspension in the next race.
