Marco Bezzecchi Injured: Marc Marquez Fires Back at Karma Trolls

2026-07-11 · Marco Bezzecchi · Opinion

Marco Bezzecchi suffered a fractured left collarbone in German Grand Prix qualifying on 20 June 2026, and Marc Marquez publicly dismissed online karma accusations, urging safety improvements.

During Saturday morning qualifying at the Sachsenring, Bezzecchi crashed heavily into the gravel trap, breaking his collarbone and withdrawing from the weekend. The injury ended his chance to score points, allowing Aprilia teammate Jorge Martin to widen his sprint lead to 11 points. Marquez, who won the sprint, faced a wave of social‑media comments suggesting the crash was "karma" for his October 2023 clash with the Italian in Indonesia.

Marquez, a six‑time world champion, took to his platform to calm the narrative. He quoted his long‑standing belief that "karma doesn’t exist," noting his own success since first hearing the word in 2015. He reminded fans that riders take huge risks and that blaming each other distracts from the real issue: the design of gravel traps. He specifically cited the lip between asphalt and gravel at both Assen and Indonesia, where he, Bezzecchi and Fermin Aldeguer were injured.

Bezzecchi’s absence hurts his title hopes. Before the crash he sat third in the standings, trailing Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia and Aprilia’s Martin. With no points from Germany, the gap to the leader widens. Meanwhile, Marquez’s sprint win cut his deficit to 32 points and highlighted Ducati’s 1‑2‑3 finish, reinforcing the Italian marque’s momentum.

Marquez called for a review of gravel‑trap geometry, urging the FIM to smooth the transition that can trap riders. He argued that a safer layout could prevent injuries like his own in Indonesia and Bezzecchi’s at the Sachsenring. The rider’s comments add pressure on race organisers ahead of the next round in Austria, where similar trap designs are in place.

Team Aprilia confirmed Bezzecchi will miss the remainder of the German Grand Prix and will undergo medical assessment. No timetable for his return was given, but the team expressed confidence in a full recovery. In the meantime, Martin will lead the Aprilia charge, while Ducati aims to capitalize on its current form.

After his sprint victory, Marquez declared "tomorrow is Ducati’s day," contrasting the recent Aprilia‑dominant race at Assen. He explained that the Sachsenring’s stop‑and‑go layout suits Ducati’s power, whereas Aprilia thrives on fast‑corner circuits. His assessment underscores the ongoing bike‑by‑bike battle shaping the 2026 season.

**Bottom line:** Bezzecchi’s injury reshapes the title fight, while Marquez’s outspoken stance on safety could spark technical revisions, keeping the MotoGP paddock buzzing.
