Marco Bezzecchi Suffers High-Speed Crash

2026-07-01 · Marco Bezzecchi · Player Focus

Marco Bezzecchi suffered a high-speed crash at the Dutch Grand Prix, escaping serious injury but damaging his championship chances.

The incident occurred at Ram's Hook, with Bezzecchi tumbling at 130 mph.

Bezzecchi was taken to the hospital after the crash but was remarkably uninjured, at least physically.

His championship took a heavy hit, with Bezzecchi now pointless in three straight Grand Prix, including a one-race ban in Czechia for striking a marshal.

Aprilia CEO Massimo Rivola had little sympathy for Bezzecchi, commenting that the Italian made a bad mistake and would need to be sent on vacation for a bit.

Rivola's comments sparked debate in the paddock, with some criticizing his approach to managing his riders.

Bezzecchi will only get a week's rest before the German Grand Prix, but then the summer break rolls around, where he may well find himself stewing on Rivola's comments.

The first flashpoint came when Jorge Martin was filmed shoving team manager Paolo Bonora, and then two races later in Hungary, he wiped out himself and four other riders in a first-corner error.

Rivola called it a ‘mistake a champion shouldn’t make’ and was panned by five-time world champion Jorge Lorenzo soon after.

Lorenzo said that Rivola's criticism of Martin was unfair, especially given that he had never been a MotoGP rider.

Bezzecchi's disaster wasn't far behind Ai Ogura's maiden victory, which was the first by a Japanese rider since 2004.

Ogura's win was clearly the story of the weekend, but Bezzecchi's crash and Rivola's comments have added to the drama.

The Italian rider will be looking to bounce back from his recent struggles and regain his form in the championship.

Rivola's approach to managing his riders has been called into question, with some feeling that he is being too harsh.

The Aprilia CEO has been using the stick rather than the carrot with his factory riders, garnering criticism from Martin and Lorenzo.

Bezzecchi's championship chances are still alive, but he will need to regroup and refocus if he is to get back on track.
