Max Whitlock Returns to Action at British Championships
Max Whitlock is set to feature at the British Artistic Gymnastics Championships this weekend, as he targets a place at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
He announced his return from retirement in November, after feeling his career was "unfinished" following a fourth-place finish in the pommel horse final at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The 33-year-old completed the joint-best pommel horse routine at the English Championships last month, his first competition since the Paris Games.
He will face strong competition from other Olympic medallists, including Jake Jarman and Harry Hepworth.
Max Whitlock is Great Britain's most successful gymnast, with three Olympic gold medals.
Alice Kinsella will become the first British artistic gymnast to resume elite competition after giving birth, just four weeks after delivering her son Parker last summer.
Her journey back to the sport is the subject of a university research paper into elite gymnasts resuming their careers after giving birth.
The British Championships will be her first competition since the Paris Games.
The championships will be broadcast live on the BBC, with the senior all-around competitions taking place on Saturday, 21 March, from 14:55-17:50 GMT.
The senior apparatus competitions will be held on Sunday, 22 March, from 11:25-17:00 GMT, and can be watched on BBC iPlayer, Red Button, and the BBC Sport website and app.
Max Whitlock's performance will be closely watched, as he aims to secure a place at the 2028 Olympics.
The championships will feature a strong lineup of athletes, including reigning world champion Jake Jarman and defending champion Alia Leat.
Max Whitlock will be looking to build on his recent success, after completing the joint-best pommel horse routine at the English Championships.
He will face tough competition from other athletes, but his experience and skill make him a strong contender for a place at the 2028 Olympics.
The British Artistic Gymnastics Championships will be an important test for Max Whitlock, as he works towards his goal of competing at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
