Michael van Gerwen targets Amsterdam repeat as World Series Finals field set

Michael van Gerwen will defend his World Series of Darts Finals crown in Amsterdam this September, the PDC confirmed on Monday.

The 36-year-old Dutchman headlines a 32-man field at AFAS Live from September 17-20. Van Gerwen won the 2025 edition and currently leads the World Series standings after victories in Bahrain and Copenhagen earlier this year.

What’s new for Michael van Gerwen?

Van Gerwen tops the World Series rankings heading into the Amsterdam season ender. His wins at the Bahrain Darts Masters and Nordic Darts Masters in Copenhagen gave him a commanding lead. The Dutchman needs only to stay in the top 24 to qualify automatically for his home event.

Luke Littler, the 2025 world champion, also returns to Amsterdam. Littler won the Saudi Arabia Darts Masters this season and sits high in the World Series standings. Luke Humphries, the world number two, will be in the field too after defending his US Darts Masters title in New York at the end of June.

How the Amsterdam qualifiers work

The top 24 players on the final World Series standings lock in their spots for Amsterdam. If players tie on points, the PDC Order of Merit breaks the deadlock. If that’s level, the number of legs won during the 2026 World Series events decides. Then comes the average across all matches.

The field fills with the four highest-ranked players on the PDC Order of Merit who haven’t qualified via the World Series. The standings as of August 23 are decisive. The final four places go to the Tour Card Holder Qualifier on August 24.

AFAS Live hosts the four-day showdown. The first round splits across two evening sessions on September 17 and 18. The second round runs on September 19 in an afternoon and evening session. The quarterfinals land on September 20 in the afternoon, followed by semifinals and the final in the evening.

Van Gerwen goes in as defending champion. Littler arrives as world champion and a fresh threat. Humphries brings his US Darts Masters form. The stage is set for a blockbuster finale in the Dutch capital.
