Mikko Rantanen Leads Finland in Pursuit of Olympic Gold

2026-06-24 · Mikko Rantanen · Player Focus

Mikko Rantanen is set to lead Finland in the men's Olympic tournament, starting with a game against Slovakia on Wednesday.

The Finnish national team will feature a strong roster, including Rantanen, Roope Hintz, Miro Heiskanen, and Esa Lindell, all of whom play for the Dallas Stars.

The Dallas Stars started five Finnish players in Game 2 of the third-round series with the Edmonton Oilers, a first in NHL history.

This chemistry will be crucial in the Olympic tournament, where Finland will face tough competition.

Mikko Rantanen expressed his excitement about playing in the Olympics, saying it's good for the hockey world to have the best players competing.

The success of the Finnish national team runs through Dallas, with general manager Jere Lehtinen assembling a team that includes four current Stars players.

Rantanen, Hintz, and Granlund will form Team Finland's top line, while Lindell and Heiskanen will be the top defensive pairing.

In 18 games last postseason, the three forwards combined for 44 points, and Heiskanen and Lindell have combined for 68 points in just shy of 60 games this season.

The Finns will get a big boost with Heiskanen on the roster, as the nation's top defenseman was unable to play in the 4 Nations Face-Off due to a knee injury.

Heiskanen said it was tough to watch the games from the sidelines, but he's excited to play in the Olympics.

Lindell remembers watching Finland's silver medal finish in 2006 and is pumped to represent his country in the tournament.

The Finnish team will face a tough schedule, but with their strong roster and chemistry, they have a good chance of defending their Olympic gold medal.

As Rantanen said, the team's chemistry will be key in the short tournament, and he's hopeful they can take advantage of it.

The Olympic tournament will be a great opportunity for Mikko Rantanen and the Finnish team to showcase their skills and compete against the best teams in the world.
