Mookie Betts says Dodgers’ World Series repeat hinges on one thing: staying healthy

2026-07-16 · Mookie Betts · Player Focus

Mookie Betts insists the Los Angeles Dodgers’ path to another World Series title comes down to one word: health.

On 16 July 2026, with the Dodgers sitting atop MLB at 61-36 entering the All-Star break, Betts: a four-time champion: told Heavy Sports the secret is simple. “Just playing, staying healthy,” he said. “That’s probably the most important thing is staying healthy. And then after that, it’s just playing our game.”

What did Mookie Betts say about the Dodgers’ season?

Betts, 33 and in his 13th MLB season, stressed consistency over late-season heroics. He pointed to the Dodgers’ relentless grind as the reason they’ve reached five World Series in 13 straight postseasons. “We don’t have to try and do anything more than we already do,” he said. “We’ve been playing good so far, and so we don’t need to add any extra pressure on ourselves.”

The Dodgers’ 2025 World Series win over the Toronto Blue Jays: a seven-game thriller after trailing 3-2: still looms large. Betts called it “heart-pounding.” Yet he argued the team’s real edge is mental. “Just locking it in every day,” he said. “It’s easy to think we’ll just wait until the postseason before we start playing or get that certain mindset. But it doesn’t really work that way.”

Why does Mookie Betts’ message matter now?

With the Braves, Phillies and Brewers nipping at their heels in the National League, the Dodgers can’t afford a late fade. Betts’ focus on daily intensity reflects the club’s culture. They’ve won three rings and made five Fall Classic trips since 2023, the longest active postseason streak in baseball.

At 33, Betts is chasing history. Only Derek Jeter (five rings) and Yogi Berra (10) have more World Series wins among position players. His message carries weight: the Dodgers’ roster mixes youth and experience, but health has been their biggest variable.

What’s next for Mookie Betts and the Dodgers?

The second half starts with Betts partnering with Corona on the “Beach Connect Series.” He and Jazz Chisholm Jr., Pete Crow-Armstrong, Ronald Acuña Jr., Jeremy Peña and Cristopher Sánchez co-designed jerseys tied to beach memories and “Playa” rituals. Betts cited golf, bowling and beach hangs as his go-to mental reset tools.

For the Dodgers, the race resumes on 19 July 2026. Betts’ role as the club’s elder statesman: paired with his elite two-way play: makes his health a barometer for their repeat hopes. If he stays on the field, the Dodgers stay favorites.

And if they stay healthy? Betts put it plain: “We’ve been playing good so far.”
