Morgan Gibbs-White set for Tottenham move in part-exchange for Lucas Bergvall

Morgan Gibbs-White is on the brink of a blockbuster move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer: but only if Nottingham Forest land Lucas Bergvall in part-exchange.

Forest have already bid £45million for Gibbs-White once this summer and are expected to return with another offer. At 26, Gibbs-White had a stunning season for Forest last term. He scored 18 goals and made seven assists across all competitions, despite his side finishing 11th in the Premier League. His creativity and goal threat make him a direct upgrade over Spurs’ current options in midfield.

Tottenham’s attack is crowded, but injuries to Xavi Simons and Dejan Kulusevski could free up minutes. James Maddison: who just returned from injury: occupies a similar role, but Gibbs-White’s versatility means he can play anywhere across the front three.

King believes the swap is “certainly doable” if Forest fancy Bergvall and Gibbs-White wants out. “If Forest fancy Bergvall and Gibbs-White wants to leave, and the offer’s right, I could see it happening,” he said. “It comes down to loyalty. He signed a new contract. Things didn’t work out. They’re not in Europe. I think it’s going to be a tough year for Forest.”

Newcastle’s interest in Bergvall adds a wrinkle, but King insists the swap remains the most logical route for both clubs. “There’s a deal to be done there, if there’s going to be a deal,” he added.

What happens next?

Tottenham must act fast. Gibbs-White’s contract runs until 2028, but Forest’s poor start to the season under a new manager could push him toward a move. If Spurs miss their window, Newcastle or another suitor may step in.

For Bergvall, a move to Forest would give him regular Premier League football. For Gibbs-White, Spurs offer Champions League football and a chance to prove himself in a bigger squad. The pieces are in place: now it’s about timing and ambition.
