MS Dhoni invests in SolarSquare’s $53M round, named brand ambassador
MS Dhoni has joined SolarSquare’s $53 million Series C round through his family office and will serve as the company’s brand ambassador, giving the residential rooftop solar sector a high-profile boost.
What happened on Tuesday?
On Tuesday, Mahendra Singh Dhoni invested in SolarSquare via Midas Deals, his family office, and was immediately named the company’s brand ambassador. The $53 million Series C round now includes Dhoni alongside other backers, marking a major endorsement for India’s rooftop solar market.
Why this matters for MS Dhoni
For Dhoni, the move is about more than capital. He framed it as an investment in India’s energy future, citing the need for clean power and security. “Energy security and clean energy are priorities that will define India’s next decade,” he said in a statement released on Tuesday. His presence signals trust in SolarSquare’s long-term vision.
How SolarSquare plans to use the funds
SolarSquare will use the fresh capital to expand into 30-40 new cities, deepen its tech platform, and widen financing options for customers. Founded in 2015, the company already serves over 50,000 homes across 29 cities with end-to-end rooftop solar solutions.
Why rooftop solar is heating up now
Rising household power bills and government policies are pushing more Indians toward solar. Shreya Mishra, SolarSquare’s co-founder and CEO, called Dhoni’s arrival a benchmark for trust. “Over two decades, he has held the trust of a billion Indians,” she said on Tuesday.
