Hülkenberg dismissed doubts about his 2027 seat, telling reporters, "The contract terms are clear. From my side, there are no question marks." When directly asked if he would race for Audi next year, he answered with a firm "Yes." He attributed the speculation to typical off-season rumors in F1, where teams often announce multi-year deals without specific dates.
Why is this significant for Audi and Hülkenberg?
Audi’s F1 project is still in its early stages, with 2026 marking their first full season as a works team. Hülkenberg, who joined Audi in 2024 for "multiple years," has already completed two seasons-2025 with Sauber and the current 2026 campaign. His confirmation for 2027 means he will be part of Audi’s long-term development, alongside teammate Gabriel Bortoleto.
Team principal Mattia Binotto had previously echoed Hülkenberg’s confidence, though he stopped short of explicitly confirming the lineup for next year. Hülkenberg added, "I know the team is very happy with Gabriel and me," suggesting stability in the driver lineup.
What’s next for Audi and Hülkenberg?
Despite his confirmation, Hülkenberg acknowledged that Audi’s F1 journey is just beginning. "2026 is our first year together as a team," he said, emphasizing the need for continued growth. The team has yet to name a reserve driver, currently relying on Alpine’s Paul Aron for Friday practice sessions.
On the track, Audi has earned points twice this season-both through Bortoleto, who finished in the top 10 in Melbourne and Silverstone. Hülkenberg, however, is still waiting for his first points with the team. As of the Belgian GP, Audi sits ninth in the constructors’ standings out of eleven teams.
