Noah Lyles Faces Disappointment as Racers Grand Prix Cancelled

2026-06-23 · Noah Lyles · Player Focus

Noah Lyles will not compete in the 2026 Racers Grand Prix as the event has been cancelled due to funding issues.

The meet, which hosted Lyles in 2024, saw him finish second in the 100m race with a time of 9.85 seconds, just behind Oblique Seville's 9.82 seconds.

The organizers of the event confirmed that the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver wouldn't be hosted in 2026.

Funding challenges emerged as the primary reason for the cancellation, despite the event being directly backed by the government of Jamaica through the Ministry of Sports and sponsored by Adidas.

Lyles had expressed his excitement to compete in the Racers Grand Prix, stating it was a "tremendous feeling" to run in front of his Jamaican fans.

He had also opened up about his experience in the 2024 edition, saying he was happy to get a personal best and win, despite eventually losing to Seville.

The cancellation of the Racers Grand Prix is a huge disappointment for track and field fans worldwide, who were looking forward to seeing top athletes like Lyles and Seville compete.

The 2025 edition of the event saw Kishane Thompson secure the 100m victory in 9.88 seconds, with Seville finishing second in 9.97 seconds.

Thompson's victory was seen as a comeback for Jamaican athletics, especially in short-distance running.

He had also defeated Seville at the Jamaican Olympic Trials, clocking a blistering 9.75 seconds, which was the world lead at that time.

Lyles finished third in the Tokyo World Championships with a time of 9.89 seconds, behind Seville's 9.77 seconds and Thompson's 9.82 seconds.

The rivalry between Thompson and Seville is expected to continue, with fans eagerly awaiting their next matchup.

And with the cancellation of the Racers Grand Prix, fans will have to wait longer to see these athletes compete.

But the track and field community remains hopeful that the event will return in the future, with Lyles and other top athletes competing at their best.

So, the focus now shifts to other upcoming events, where fans can expect to see thrilling performances from Lyles, Seville, and Thompson.
