2026-06-29 · Novak Djokovic · Player Focus

Novak Djokovic demanded an apology from Aryna Sabalenka in a playful exchange at Wimbledon. The Serb took mock offense after Sabalenka walked across his court without offering an apology.

The incident occurred during Djokovic's practice session at the All England Club. Sabalenka responded with a tongue-in-cheek apology, complete with an exaggerated bow.

Djokovic is set to face Wu Yibing in the first round of the grass-court Major on June 29. The 24-time Grand Slam champion offered an encouraging assessment of his physical condition and preparedness for Wimbledon.

Djokovic revealed that it had always been his intention to “peak at Wimbledon” after a shoulder injury forced him to miss most of the clay-court season. He expressed confidence in his ability to perform well on grass.

The Serb has a strong record at Wimbledon, which gives him a higher dose of confidence coming into the tournament. Djokovic's physical state is better than it was for Roland Garros, where he suffered a disappointing third-round exit.

Djokovic will face either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Hugo Gaston in the second round if he emerges victorious against Wu Yibing. Sabalenka, meanwhile, will await the winner of the match between McCartney Kessler and Oleksandra Oliynykova if she advances to the Round of 64.

Djokovic's warm friendship with Sabalenka has produced plenty of amusing moments, from their dance battles at the French Open to witty banter on social media. The duo's camaraderie was on display during their humorous exchange at Wimbledon.

Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka will play their opening matches on June 29. The world No. 1 Sabalenka will kick off her campaign against qualifier Teodora Kostović, determined to make a strong start as she chases her maiden Wimbledon title.

Djokovic's focus is on winning his record-extending 25th Grand Slam title. He has always loved playing on grass and has a very good score at Wimbledon. The Serb's confidence and physical state make him a strong contender for the title.

The first round of Wimbledon will be an exciting match for Djokovic and his fans. With his strong record and confidence, he is ready to take on the challenge and make his way to the top.
