Novak Djokovic Practices Intensely at Wimbledon

2026-06-25 · Novak Djokovic · Player Focus

Novak Djokovic started his practice session with Jannik Sinner on Thursday, just a day after withdrawing from the Giorgio Armani Classic. The 45-minute session was an intense one, with both players making the most of their early access to the tournament's top courts.

Djokovic and Sinner were the first men to take to Court No. 1 at this year's Wimbledon Championships. Their hit followed an earlier session featuring Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula.

The practice session was a crucial one for Djokovic, who has played only four tournaments this year due to a nagging shoulder injury. He will be hoping to turn things around at SW19, where he is a seven-time champion.

Djokovic's withdrawal from the Giorgio Armani Classic had sparked concern over his fitness, but he seemed to be in good shape during the practice session. He will be looking to gain key insights from his practice sessions as he targets a 25th Major title.

Sinner, on the other hand, was part of the line-up at the Hurlingham Club and went ahead with his appearance, despite the hot conditions. He used the conditions to gain valuable experience ahead of his title defense, saying "there was no wind at all, so it was maybe even warmer, but it's good. That's exactly what I need, a good preparation before starting the tournament."

Djokovic will be looking to make a strong start at Wimbledon, where he will face stiff competition from the likes of Jannik Sinner and other top seeds. With his experience and skill, he will be a force to be reckoned with, but he will need to be at the top of his game if he is to win his 25th Major title.

The Serb's practice session with Sinner was a good sign, and he will be hoping to build on that as he prepares for the tournament. With the main draw just around the corner, Djokovic will be looking to make a statement and show that he is still a force to be reckoned with in the tennis world.

Djokovic and Sinner made full use of their early access to acclimatize to the conditions at SW19. The entry is typically reserved for past champions, top seeds, and other leading figures in the game. Notably, Center Court and Court No. 1 were previously off-limits until the start of the tournament, a measure intended to preserve the highly regarded grass surface.

The policy changed in 2022 following a series of player complaints about slippery conditions, including concerns raised after Serena Williams sustained an injury during her 2021 run. Djokovic and Sinner, both of whom opted against competing in warm-up tournaments, made the most of their early access to prepare for the main draw.

With Djokovic being one of only three players to have beaten Sinner this year, the Italian will be looking to gain key insights as he targets a fifth Grand Slam title. The Serb, meanwhile, continues his quest for a 25th Major, and his practice session with Sinner was a good sign of things to come.
