2026-06-30 · OG Anunoby · Player Focus

OG Anunoby tipped in the vital basket in Game 4 to complete a record comeback from 29 points down, securing the New York Knicks' NBA third title on 14 June 2026.

Anunoby's epic leap and delicate tip with 1.2 seconds to go saw the Knicks draw the series level and ultimately take the lead.

The British superstar delivered the ultimate viral moment, swinging the NBA Finals decisively in the New York Knicks' favour.

Anunoby believes NBA Europe will allow other Brits to blaze a similar trail as himself right to the top of the game.

He hopes his moment can help the NBA capitalise on their plans to expand into Europe, with London and Manchester targeted for potential franchises.

The competition for franchises is red hot, with several bids above the $1 billion mark received during the bidding process.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver confirmed plans for NBA Europe are "on schedule" to launch next year.

The NBA and UK Government announced a joint £10 million investment to create more opportunities and spaces for youth to learn and play basketball last year.

Anunoby is enthusiastic about the prospect of world-class basketball being available to fans in the UK, stating "I think London, especially, is an untapped market".

He reckons the new league could be the spark which fuels a further explosion in what is already the fastest-growing sport in the UK, according to Sport England.

The 28-year-old is a firm believer in the potential of basketball in this country, with **$3 billion** invested in support of the league and its teams.

Lisa Nandy, Secretary for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, said "The NBA's ambitions to expand into Europe represent a massive opportunity for the UK".

Franchises could deliver billions of pounds in economic growth and create jobs, bringing unforgettable moments for fans right here on home soil.
