Oliver Bearman Credits Carlos Sainz for Formula 1 Career

2026-06-23 · Oliver Bearman · Player Focus

Oliver Bearman has credited Carlos Sainz for his role in launching his Formula 1 career.

He got his first taste of F1 action in 2023, driving FP1 for Haas at the Mexico City Grand Prix.

Bearman was given a late call-up to replace Sainz at the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix after Sainz suffered from appendicitis.

He became the youngest driver ever to compete for Ferrari, finishing seventh despite qualifying 11th.

This opportunity allowed Bearman to prove himself in Formula 1.

He finished his rookie season with 41 points and has added another 17 so far in the current campaign.

Bearman found the physical and mental demands of racing at the top level to be a clear step up from what he'd experienced before.

The travel was a lot more demanding, with more marketing days and media days.

He has shown signs of progress in his second season, looking more comfortable behind the wheel.

There is speculation that he could soon make the step up to Ferrari as Lewis Hamilton's replacement.

Bearman has continued to impress since stepping into a permanent race seat with Haas.

He has spoken about the difficulties of his first year, but is now more confident in his approach.

And he's determined to keep improving, with **41 points** in his rookie season and **17 points** so far in the current campaign.

Bearman has stated that he will always be grateful to Sainz, who played a key role in helping his career get off the ground.

He said: “First of all, I will always say to Carlos that I’m in his debt for the rest of my life.”

This sense of gratitude is clear, and Bearman is keen to acknowledge the role Sainz has played in his career.

But he's also focused on the future, and making the most of the opportunities that come his way.

So he's working hard to continue improving, and to make a name for himself in the world of Formula 1.
