Oliver Bearman emerges as Red Bull's shock Verstappen replacement option

2026-07-14 · Oliver Bearman · Transfer

Oliver Bearman has emerged as a surprise candidate to replace Max Verstappen at Red Bull, according to Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft. The 21-year-old Brit has impressed since joining Haas in 2025, and his potential move to Ferrari has been widely discussed. However, Red Bull may now be considering Bearman as an option if Verstappen leaves the team.

During the live broadcast of the British Grand Prix, Croft revealed that Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies has been keeping close tabs on Bearman. Mekies previously signed Bearman to the Ferrari Academy, making the young driver a familiar face to the Red Bull team.

Croft stated, "I know Red Bull are keeping very close tabs on Ollie Bearman. If he hasn’t got a way into the Scuderia, that might be a very good option for Red Bull and for Ollie."

Bearman's impressive performances at Haas since his debut in 2025 have caught the attention of several top teams. With Lewis Hamilton contracted until at least the end of the 2027 season and Charles Leclerc recently signing a new deal until 2028, Bearman's path to Ferrari may be blocked.

2009 world champion Jenson Button agreed with Croft, suggesting that Bearman should explore other options. "For his management, yes, I think they need to be talking to other teams and other possibilities," Button said. "Because he could get stuck at this team [Haas] if Lewis decides to be as good as he is for many years to come."

Bearman's potential move to Red Bull could be an enticing prospect, given the team's recent struggles with car performance. With Verstappen's future at Red Bull uncertain, Bearman could be a viable replacement if the Dutchman decides to leave.

However, Bearman does have time on his side and could potentially wait for a seat at Ferrari. At just 21 years old, Bearman has plenty of time to develop and prove himself as a top driver in Formula 1.

As the 2026 season progresses, Bearman will continue to impress at Haas and attract the attention of top teams. With Verstappen's future at Red Bull uncertain, Bearman could be a surprise candidate to replace the Dutchman if he decides to leave the team.

Bearman's management will likely explore all options, including a potential move to Red Bull, to ensure the young driver's continued development and success in Formula 1.
