Patrick Mahomes has been knocked from ESPN’s top quarterback spot for the first time in three years after Josh Allen was named No. 1 in the network’s 2026 preseason poll.

What happened?

More than 70 NFL executives, coaches and scouts voted in ESPN’s annual survey, and Allen’s average ranking of 2.10 edged Mahomes’ 2.19. Allen did not lead in first-place votes but still claimed the top spot entering the 2026 season.
