Patrick Mahomes Rehabbing Knee Injury Ahead of Camp

2026-06-28 · Patrick Mahomes · Player Focus

Patrick Mahomes is rehabbing his torn ACL/LCL from Week 15 against the Los Angeles Chargers last December.

The Kansas City Chiefs are being cautious with Mahomes' recovery, avoiding any contact between defenders and the quarterback in practice.

Xavier Worthy, a first-round pick out of Texas, has been spotted in a yellow non-contact jersey during mandatory minicamp, as he recovers from a torn shoulder labrum and ankle injury.

Worthy played through the 2025 season with these injuries, tallying 42 catches, 532 yards, and one touchdown in 14 games.

Rashee Rice continues to rehabilitate his injured knee following surgery in mid-May, and could be back to full health by the time training camp starts in late July.

The Chiefs will want to ensure Worthy is 100% before removing the non-contact jersey, with the possibility of it remaining on at the start of training camp.

The team's goal is to have Mahomes fully cleared by the beginning of camp, with participation in at least one preseason game, although it remains to be seen how comfortable the Chiefs feel putting Mahomes out there during exhibition play.

Mahomes has yet to take part in any 11-on-11 drills in practice, as the Chiefs prioritize his recovery.

The Chiefs' wide receiver room is thin, making any news involving Worthy and Rice considerable ahead of the regular season.

Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports reported on Sunday, June 28, that Worthy has been better than good through offseason workouts, despite his physical health remaining a point of concern for the coaching staff.

Worthy was named the unofficial MVP of Phase III by The Athletic's Jesse Newell, and the Chiefs will want to make sure he is fully healthy before the start of the season.

Rice did not suffer any complications to his knee during his incarceration and could be back to full health by the time training camp starts in late July.

The Chiefs' caution with Mahomes' recovery is understandable, given the importance of his health to the team's success.

As the team prepares for the start of camp, all eyes will be on Mahomes, Worthy, and Rice, as they look to make a strong start to the season.
