Pedri Suffers Knee Injury, Ruled Out of Euro 2024 Semifinal
Pedri is officially ruled out of the Euro 2024 semifinal with a knee injury, suffered in the match against Germany.
The Spanish Football Federation confirmed the 21-year-old midfielder has a grade two sprain in his left knee.
Pedri limped off the field in tears after a couple of hefty challenges from Toni Kroos, and was replaced by Dani Olmo in the eighth minute.
Olmo scored in the 51st minute to give Spain a 1-0 lead over Germany, and Spain won the match 2-1 after extra time.
The injury normally takes several weeks to recover from, so Pedri will play no part in Tuesday's semifinal against France or the final five days later.
Pedri has been a key player at Euro 2024, starting four of Spain's five matches and missing only the final group match against Albania.
The Spanish Football Federation said Pedri will stay with the Spain squad for the rest of the tournament, despite being ruled out of the semifinal.
Spain won't have Álvaro Morata or Dani Carvajal available for the semifinal, due to a number of players from both sides being booked.
Pedri's absence will be a significant blow to Spain's chances of advancing to the final, as he has been a crucial player in the team's success so far.
The match against France is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, and Spain will need to find a way to overcome Pedri's absence if they are to progress.
As reported by The Associated Press, Pedri's injury is a significant setback for the Spanish team, and his absence will be felt in the semifinal.
