Rafael Nadal opens up on emotional retirement decision

Rafael Nadal has opened up about the emotional journey that led to his retirement from professional tennis. In a candid interview, the 38-year-old Spanish legend revealed the internal struggle he faced before making the difficult decision to end his illustrious career.

What pushed Nadal to retire?

Nadal, a 22-time Grand Slam champion, admitted that the physical toll of his career played a significant role in his decision. After years of battling injuries, particularly to his knees and feet, the Spaniard found it increasingly difficult to maintain the level of performance he demanded of himself. 'I knew I couldn't compete at the highest level anymore,' Nadal said.

The emotional weight of the decision

The Mallorcan superstar also spoke about the emotional weight of his retirement. Nadal, who has been a dominant force in tennis for over two decades, struggled with the idea of leaving the sport he loved. 'It was a battle between my heart and my mind,' he confessed. 'I wanted to keep playing, but my body wouldn't let me.'

What's next for the tennis legend?

As Nadal prepares to step away from the court, he has already begun to focus on his future endeavors. The Spaniard has expressed interest in staying involved in tennis, possibly in a coaching or mentoring role. He also plans to spend more time with his family and pursue other personal interests. 'I have so much to look forward to,' Nadal said, 'but I will always cherish the memories and the incredible journey I've had in tennis.'
