Richarlison faces Tottenham showdown after explosive World Cup final reaction

Richarlison has sparked concern at Tottenham Hotspur after his explosive reaction to the World Cup final left him at odds with Cristian Romero.

The Brazilian forward’s post-match outburst on 15 July went viral, showing him shouting and gesturing at the screen as Argentina beat France in the final. Romero, who played for Argentina, was seen in the background reacting to the scenes.

What happened in Paris?

On 15 July, Argentina edged France 1-0 in a dramatic World Cup final at the Parc des Princes in Paris. Richarlison, watching from the stands, was caught on camera losing his composure as the final whistle blew.

His reaction-shouting and pointing at the pitch-drew immediate attention. Romero, standing nearby, appeared to engage with the Brazilian, raising the prospect of a dressing-room fallout at Spurs.

Why it matters for Richarlison

The incident puts Richarlison in an awkward spot at Tottenham. The club’s pre-season plans start in under two weeks, and any tension with Romero could disrupt harmony.

Spurs signed Richarlison last summer for £60m from Everton. His £10m wages make him one of the highest earners, so any distraction risks affecting his form in Antonio Conte’s rebuild.

Romero, meanwhile, is a key figure in Conte’s plans. The Argentina defender has been a rock at the back and a fan favourite since arriving in 2022. A public spat could force Conte to act.

What comes next for Spurs?

Tottenham’s pre-season tour begins on 22 July in South Korea. Conte will want the squad united, but Richarlison and Romero’s relationship could complicate things.

The club has yet to comment on the fallout. Richarlison is expected to report for pre-season training as planned, but the club may hold private talks to defuse tensions before the squad flies out.

For Romero, the timing is terrible. He’s just returned from winning the World Cup and now faces questions over his future if the dressing-room mood sours. Spurs have no plans to sell him, but the club’s hierarchy will monitor the situation closely.
