Robert Whittaker joins elite trio as Max Holloway makes three-division history at UFC 329
Robert Whittaker has joined an exclusive club of UFC fighters after Max Holloway made history at UFC 329 on Saturday night.
Holloway’s dominant win over Conor McGregor at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas saw him become the fourth man in UFC history to record TKO or knockout victories in three different weight classes. Whittaker, McGregor and Jared Cannonier are the only others to achieve the feat.
The event delivered a blockbuster main card but ended in anticlimax when McGregor injured his knee on his opening strike and was finished in just 69 seconds. Holloway’s performance, however, cemented his legacy as one of the sport’s all-time greats.
Holloway improved to 28-9 in MMA and 24-9 in the UFC. His victory tied Neil Magny for the third-most UFC wins ever at 24, behind only Jim Miller (27) and Charles Oliveira (25). He also extended his UFC record for most fight time logged at 8:53:52.
Whittaker now sits among a tiny group of fighters who have stopped rivals in three weight classes via strikes. The Australian middleweight has long been a top contender and this milestone adds another layer to his resume.
Holloway’s achievement underscores the depth of talent in the UFC featherweight division. Whittaker, a former UFC middleweight champion, has faced the best in his class but now shares a statistical footnote with a legend of the sport.
UFC 329 set several modern-era marks. Eleven of the fourteen bouts ended in stoppage, tying the record for most stoppages in a single UFC event. Eight first-round finishes broke the single-event record.
The live gate hit $26.4 million, the highest in UFC history. Holloway’s total fight time in the UFC now stands at 8:53:52, another company record.
Whittaker remains in title contention at middleweight. His next move could come against a top contender or a shot at the champion.
The Australian has not fought since a split-decision loss to Dricus Du Plessis in October 2025. His camp has been quiet on scheduling, but the path to a title rematch or a new challenge is wide open.
Holloway’s historic night overshadowed no one for long. The focus now shifts to the next chapter: and Whittaker’s place in it.
