Ryan Giggs Backs Cole Palmer Transfer to Man United

Ryan Giggs has given his verdict on Cole Palmer's potential transfer to Manchester United.

Giggs appeared on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast and was asked if Palmer would be a good fit at United.

He replied, "Yeah, he would, Manchester lad." Giggs suggested Palmer could play off the right, but noted that Bruno Fernandes is currently occupying the No.10 spot.

Giggs emphasized the need for multiple players who can create scoring opportunities, saying, "What if Bruno has a bad day or he's injured? You need three or four players in your squad who can make things happen."

Giggs also discussed Ruben Amorim's time at United, praising some of the Portuguese coach's signings, despite his tenure being marked by inconsistent results.

Giggs noted that Amorim's stubborn adherence to his 3-4-3 formation ultimately led to his downfall, but suggested that Michael Carrick is now reaping the rewards of the positive foundations left by his predecessor.

Carrick has overseen a transformation at United, with the team on the cusp of securing Champions League football.

Giggs praised Carrick's impact, saying, "For once in a long time, you're excited about the games." He also expressed his support for his former teammate, saying, "We're all cheering Michael on."

Giggs acknowledged that it's difficult for a manager to implement their philosophy at this time of the season, but noted that Carrick is winning games, which is the hardest thing to do.

Giggs remarked that every manager is now like an interim manager, with little time to make an impact.

He said, "20-30 years ago you're looking at long-term, you're buying players in, young players, who are maybe not right yet but in two or three years' time they'll be great for the club."

Giggs emphasized the importance of working short-term and long-term, and suggested that Carrick will do just that. He also noted that a good manager is judged by the team they leave behind, and that Amorim's signings are now bearing fruit.
