Gary Neville names Ryan Gravenberch his top Liverpool target for Man United
Ryan Gravenberch has been singled out by Gary Neville as the only Liverpool player Manchester United should target this transfer window.
The Dutch midfielder arrived at Anfield from Bayern Munich in summer 2023 and has since become a regular starter under Arne Slot. United, meanwhile, are hunting for midfield reinforcements after Casemiro left on a free transfer following their third-place finish in the 2025/26 Premier League.
In a Q&A with The Overlap, Neville was asked to name one Liverpool player he’d bring to United. He didn’t hesitate.
“I’d go with Gravenberch,” Neville said. “If you said to me, ‘United, now, who would I take?’ I’d take Gravenberch probably. He’s the best of the three midfielders United would need and we need a midfielder desperately.”
Neville’s praise came as United wrapped up a deal for Chelsea’s Andrey Santos. But with Manuel Ugarte sidelined by an ACL injury, INEOS still need another midfielder to support Kobbie Mainoo.
The 24-year-old is under contract at Liverpool until 2032, making a move unlikely this summer. Still, his performances have made him one of the standout midfielders in the Premier League.
Last season, he played 38 games across all competitions, contributing two goals and five assists. His physical presence and ability to progress play have drawn attention from clubs across Europe.
Neville also poured cold water on Liverpool’s attacking options. He argued United’s forwards-Alexander Isak, Michael Olise and Amad Diallo-have more proven quality than Liverpool’s frontline.
“The forwards are good but I wouldn’t probably swap them over Mbeumo, Cunha, Bruno, Amad,” Neville said. “I think they’ve got potential to go and do brilliant things but they’ve not proved it yet.”
United spent heavily last summer on Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko. The trio helped fire 69 Premier League goals-the third-highest total behind Arsenal (71) and Manchester City (77).
With Santos already signed and Ugarte injured, United still need one more midfielder. Reports suggest INEOS are eyeing Harry Kane, but Neville’s backing keeps Gravenberch in the conversation.
The race to land the right midfield partner for Mainoo could define United’s season. If Gravenberch becomes available, Old Trafford would have a ready-made leader in midfield.
