Sadio Mané Slams CAF Decision to Strip Senegal of Africa Cup of Nations Title

2026-06-23 · Sadio Mané · Player Focus

Sadio Mané and the Senegalese national team are furious after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) stripped them of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.

The CAF Appeals Committee ruled that Senegal's behavior during the final against Morocco constituted a breach of regulations, resulting in a 3-0 win for Morocco.

The decision was prompted by disturbances during the match, including Senegal's players temporarily leaving the pitch in protest after a late penalty was awarded to Morocco.

Sadio Mané wrote on Instagram, "What has happened here goes too far. This is not the football we fight for, nor the Africa we believe in."

He emphasized that corruption is killing the passion of millions of fans across the continent.

The Senegalese Football Federation announced it would file an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne as soon as possible.

Secretary-General Abdoulaye Seydou Sow described the decision as "unfair, unprecedented and unacceptable, bringing African football into disrepute."

He added that the federation would "stop at nothing" to appeal the decision, stating that "the law is on our side."

Pathe Ciss, a Senegalese player, reacted to the news on social media, posting photos of himself with the medal and trophy, saying "You can give those crybabies another three goals."

The Moroccan Football Federation responded calmly to the CAF decision, stating that the measure was intended to ensure the application of competition regulations.

As of January 18, the Africa Cup of Nations final was marred by disturbances, with the match on the verge of being abandoned due to chaos in the stands.

Sadio Mané's statement highlighted the need for fairness, transparency, and respect in African football.

The appeal process is expected to begin soon, with the Senegalese Football Federation determined to fight for their title.

The CAF decision has sparked outrage among Senegalese fans and players, who feel that the title was unfairly taken away from them.

The incident has also raised concerns about corruption and the integrity of African football.

Sadio Mané's comments have resonated with fans across the continent, who are calling for change and reform in the sport.

The outcome of the appeal is uncertain, but one thing is clear: Sadio Mané and the Senegalese national team will not give up without a fight.
