Sepp Kuss Celebrates Vuelta Win with Homecoming Event

2026-06-23 · Sepp Kuss · Player Focus

Sepp Kuss, the newly-crowned Vuelta a España champion, will celebrate his win with a homecoming event in Durango on October 19.

The 29-year-old Jumbo-Visma rider will attend a free public event at Buckley Park, which will include a bike parade and autograph session.

Sepp Kuss made history by becoming the first US rider to win a Grand Tour in a decade, claiming the red leader’s jersey at the Vuelta a España.

He achieved this feat on September 17, just two weeks before his homecoming celebration.

The homecoming event is a chance for Kuss to connect with his roots and the community that supported him from the start of his cycling career.

Kuss began his cycling journey with Durango Devo, a non-profit youth organization that now has over 600 kids in the program.

The celebration will be hosted by Durango Devo and will feature a public address by Kuss, followed by a question-and-answer session.

Attendees can participate in a bike parade and get autographs from Kuss, with live music and food also available.

Sepp Kuss merchandise will be on sale, and admission is free, although parking is limited in the downtown area.

Levi Kurlander, executive director of Durango Devo, expressed pride in hosting the event for one of their most notable alumni.

Kuss, who now resides in Andorra with his wife Noemi, grew up riding mountain bikes in Durango and later focused on road racing.

His first UCI stage race victory was at the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah in 2018, and he competed in his first Vuelta at the age of 24.

The homecoming event is a testament to Kuss's connection to his hometown and the cycling community that nurtured his talent.

Durango is also home to the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic and Fort Lewis College, which supports a successful Division I college cycling program.

The mountain town can now add another claim to fame, being the hometown of the "Eagle of Durango", Sepp Kuss.
