Sifan Hassan Attempts Quadruple Crown at Paris Olympics

2026-06-29 · Sifan Hassan · Player Focus

Sifan Hassan will attempt to win the 1500m, 5000m, 10,000m and marathon at the Paris Olympics.

Hassan, 31, made history at the Tokyo Olympics, winning gold in the 5000m and 10,000m and bronze in the 1500m.

She will face fierce competition from Kenya's Faith Kipyegon across the 1500m and 5000m.

Hassan moved up distances for the first time last year, winning the 2023 London Marathon and then running 2:13:44 to win the 2023 Chicago Marathon.

She delivered a standout performance at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, earning a bronze medal in the 1500m, silver in the 5000m and 11th place in the 10,000m.

Hassan's Paris schedule is set to include the 5000m on August 2 and 5, the 1500m on August 6, 8, and 10, the 10,000m on August 9, and the marathon on August 11.

And her toughest competition will likely come from Faith Kipyegon, who lowered her own 1500m world record at the Paris Diamond League on Sunday.

Hassan is known for her resiliency and tenacity inside and outside of running, having won races even after falling down.

But many questions remain about Hassan's ability to recover and perform at her best with such a packed race calendar.

So the world will be watching as Sifan Hassan attempts to make history at the Paris Olympics.

Hassan's marathon debut was a success, winning the 2023 London Marathon in dramatic fashion.

She then ran 2:13:44, the second fastest women's marathon in history, to win the 2023 Chicago Marathon.

On August 2, Hassan will start her Paris Olympic campaign with the 5000m, Round 1.

And on August 11, she will finish with the marathon, seeking to complete the unprecedented quadruple crown.
