Stephen Curry’s Father Dell Curry Urges Warriors to Pursue LeBron James Amid Shrinking Championship Window
Stephen Curry’s father, Dell Curry, has publicly stated the Golden State Warriors must acquire LeBron James to maximize their dwindling championship window. Speaking at the American Century Championship in South Lake Tahoe on 13 Jul 2026, Dell Curry argued James is the missing piece for a roster led by Curry, 38, and Draymond Green, 37.
Dell Curry linked the Warriors’ urgency to the aging core. "You’re still trying to win championships," he said. "The Warriors need a player like LeBron to get over the hump. Steph, Draymond-all those guys are tail-ending their careers like LeBron. They’re still trying to win another ring."
Stephen Curry, entering his 16th NBA season, has already pitched James on joining the Warriors. The team’s recent moves, including trading for Jimmy Butler, have faltered due to injuries. Butler (torn ACL) and Moses Moody (torn patellar tendon) are sidelined, leaving Curry without consistent co-stars.
Golden State faces financial constraints. Trading Moody and renegotiating Green’s contract could free $38 million below the salary cap apron, per analyst Bobby Marks. This would allow a $6 million offer to James, who can be signed for the $3.9 million veteran minimum as-is.
Acquiring James remains complicated. A proposed Anthony Davis trade was deemed too expensive due to Butler’s injury. "The math and roster construction become better if Moody is traded," Marks noted. Meanwhile, Curry’s ability to carry the team diminishes as his career progresses.
Draymond Green’s willingness to take a pay cut adds flexibility, but the Warriors must act swiftly. Their current roster, minus Butler and Moody, lacks the firepower to contend with Western Conference rivals like the Timberwolves and Suns.
