Steven Gerrard Edges Closer to Rangers Return

2026-06-24 · Steven Gerrard · Transfer

Steven Gerrard is close to a return to Rangers, and this could lead to Joe Aribo's return to the club.

The Gers have been put on alert by the news of Aribo's search for a new club ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Aribo had a sensational spell at Rangers between 2019 and 2022, winning two trophies before moving to Southampton for £10million.

He was crucial to their Scottish Premiership title victory under Gerrard's guidance.

In the 2021-22 Scottish Premiership title-winning season, Aribo averaged 0.28 goals, 1.90 shots, 1.46 chances created, 2.37 successful dribbles, and 5.54 touches in the opposition box per match.

These stats were reported by Fotmob on 12 June.

Aribo's form under Gerrard was sensational, and he will be keen to rekindle this form as he enters the prime of his career.

If Gerrard is appointed as Danny Rohl's successor, Aribo could quickly follow him through the entrance door.

The Daily Record has reported that the Gers are alert to Aribo's situation, and Rangers Review has stated that Gerrard is in the frame for the manager position.

Gerrard is capable of getting the best out of Aribo, and the midfielder will know this.

Aribo's return to Rangers would give the club a major advantage in the Scottish Premiership, potentially ending Celtic's dominance in Scotland.

The midfielder's stats under Gerrard are impressive, and replicating these next season could transform the club.

But it remains to be seen if Rangers can get the deal over the line, especially if Rohl remains in his post ahead of the new campaign.

And with Gerrard's potential return to Rangers, the club's chances of signing Aribo have increased significantly.

So, a return to Ibrox feels inevitable for Aribo if Gerrard is in charge.
