Tiafoe, on the other hand, defeated Flavio Cobolli and Félix Auger-Aliassime en route to the final.

Fritz praised Tiafoe's performance, saying he played great and was happy for his friend's win.

Fritz confessed that he wasn't fond of Tiafoe after the loss, but acknowledged their strong friendship.

He expressed his happiness for Tiafoe's first ATP 500 title, congratulating him on a great year.

Tiafoe also shared his delight at seeing Fritz back on the court after an extended injury spell.

Fritz is expected to play in Eastbourne, where he is the reigning champion and has won the tournament four times.

He will look to bounce back from his back-to-back grass-court final losses and repeat his semifinal run at Wimbledon last year.

Fritz's loss marks his second consecutive grass-court final defeat, after losing to Ben Shelton in the Stuttgart Open final.

He had previously not lost a grass-court final before this month, but can take encouragement from his start to the grass-court swing.
