Tracy McGrady Predicts NBA Duos to Watch

2026-06-23 · Tracy McGrady · Opinion

Tracy McGrady predicts the San Antonio Spurs' Dylan Harper and Victor Wembanyama, and the Boston Celtics' Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, will put the NBA on notice next season.

Tracy McGrady, a Basketball Hall of Famer, has been following the NBA closely as part of his broadcast work.

He believes Harper and Wembanyama are a dynamic duo that the Spurs should tap into for further development.

Dylan Harper had a impressive playoff run in his rookie year, averaging 18.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in the NBA Finals.

Tracy McGrady thinks Harper should start next season, either replacing De'Aaron Fox or starting both of them.

**"I have never seen this out of a young cat. He's got to start. I don't give a flip. That kid has to start… Ain't no coming off the bench, bro. Ain't no way he is coming off your bench next year and playing, you know, bench minutes. Starter minutes. Ball in his hands. He's your closer. You're one-two with Wemby,"** McGrady pointed out.

The Boston Celtics' Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum are another duo that McGrady is high on.

Brown did a stellar job holding the fort in Tatum's absence, posting career-highs of 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists.

Tatum missed much of last season due to an Achilles injury, but averaged 21.8 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 5.3 assists in the 16 games he played.

McGrady believes the Celtics' early exit from the playoffs was due to Brown and Tatum not clicking.

He expects them to figure things out if they work together in the summer, despite trade talks involving Brown.

**"In the East, a little bit of controversy, Jaylen Brown and JT. I'm looking forward to having them back if they stay together, which I think they will… And if they can figure it out, which they figured it out a couple years ago, but to get back to what they were, I like what we're going to see out of Boston next year,"** McGrady said.

The Spurs and Celtics are expected to be competitive next season with their young duos leading the charge.

Tracy McGrady's predictions will be put to the test as the new NBA season approaches.
