Victor Osimhen Rejects United Move, Vows to Stay at Galatasaray

2026-07-07 · Victor Osimhen · Transfer

Victor Osimhen announced on 3 July 2026 that he will stay at Galatasaray, effectively ending Manchester United’s £150 million bid for the Nigerian striker and forcing the English club to look elsewhere for a new front‑man.

Manchester United spent over £200 million on attacking talent last summer, bringing in Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. The trio helped United finish third in the 2024/25 Premier League with 69 goals, but the club still seeks a true number 9 to share the load. Osimhen’s 22 goals and eight assists in 33 games for Galatasaray last season made him an obvious candidate, and The Peoples Person reported United were monitoring his situation closely.

Speaking to Turkish outlet *Fanatik*, Osimhen said, “We’ve been promoting the Turkish League to the world for years. Next season we’ll be even better and represent Galatasaray with more hunger.” He added, “I’ve missed my team and my fans so much. The best atmosphere in the world is at our stadium.” The comments leave no doubt that the striker prefers to remain in Istanbul, despite interest from the Premier League.

Galatasaray have set a £150 million asking price for Osimhen, a figure that reflects his contract until 2029 and his recent form. United’s budget, already stretched by last summer’s signings, now faces a tough decision: meet the demand or pivot to other targets. With the Champions League and domestic cups looming, the Red Devils need a reliable scorer, but Osimhen’s stance narrows their options.

If United drop the pursuit, they may turn to emerging talents or revisit the market for a proven Premier League striker. Meanwhile, Osimhen will start the new Turkish season aiming to defend Galatasaray’s league title and add another Turkish Cup. His decision keeps the Turkish side’s attacking line‑up intact and adds another chapter to his rapid rise since joining on loan in 2024.

Staying at Galatasaray allows Osimhen to continue building on a season where he scored 22 league goals and helped the club retain the Süper Lig crown. The continuity could boost his chances of a future move to a top‑five league, perhaps on his own terms. For now, the Nigerian forward remains a key figure in Istanbul, and United must adjust their transfer strategy accordingly.
