Viktor Hovland Warns PGA Tour Pros on Being Greedy
Viktor Hovland got off to an excellent start at the Genesis Scottish Open, signing one of the few clean cards of the round with a 4-under 66.
The Norwegian acknowledged the enormous challenges posed by The Renaissance Club course.
He offered advice to his colleagues, warning them about being 'greedy' on the course.
Hovland's words were illustrated by his own performance, where he managed to keep a clean card.
He made four birdies and no bogeys during the first round.
Hovland finished tied for ninth place, just two strokes behind the leaders, after the first round.
He wasn't among the round's best in any statistic, but maintained a steady performance.
And his putting was quite poor, with only 0.02 strokes gained.
But he was pleased with the score, saying he left a couple of shots out there on the par-5s.
So Hovland still feels he has a ways to go to match the form he had in 2023.
He has played the Scottish Open three times previously, with his best result being tied for 25th in 2023.
Despite this, Hovland's ability to compete didn't seem to be an issue this Thursday.
The Norwegian has one win and five other top-25 finishes this season.
And he will look to build on this strong start in the next three rounds.
But for now, Hovland is focused on hitting the ball where he's looking and making a few putts.
He will need to scramble to stay competitive, but his performance so far is promising.
With the leaders just two strokes ahead, Hovland is well-placed to make a move up the leaderboard.
