Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Struggles with Home Runs

2026-06-23 · Vladimir Guerrero Jr. · Player Focus

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is struggling to hit home runs this season, with only three in 68 games.

He's slashing .280/.372/.366, but his 103 OPS+ would be the lowest of his eight-year career over a full season.

The Blue Jays' former MVP, Josh Donaldson, recently offered advice to Guerrero on "Get it Done League."

Donaldson said Guerrero needs to start envisioning hitting the ball to the second deck, rather than just hitting line drives.

He thinks Guerrero hits the ball too low too often, which is backed up by the stats.

Guerrero has barreled the ball up just 14 times this season, per Statcast, after doing so 61 times during the 2025 season.

His barrel rate is essentially half of what it was a year ago, down to 4.9 percent from 9.0 percent.

The 2015 American League MVP, Donaldson, believes the "hit more homers" advice might help Guerrero.

And Guerrero's line-drive rate is down to 19.1 percent from 21.2 percent, and his ground-ball rate is up to 48.6 from 46.5.

So Guerrero will look to take Donaldson's advice and start hitting more home runs.

Guerrero will look to turn his season around and start hitting more home runs, with the Blue Jays hoping he can return to his 2025 postseason form.

But for now, Guerrero remains one of the most talented hitters in baseball, with 186 home runs before his 28th birthday.

And the Blue Jays will be hoping he can start hitting more home runs soon, to help them in their push for the playoffs.

The Blue Jays' fans will be eager to see Guerrero start hitting home runs again, and he will be looking to prove himself as one of the best hitters in baseball.
