Wesley So Wins Sinquefield Cup Title

American Grandmaster Wesley So triumphed at the 2025 Sinquefield Cup, winning his second title in Saint Louis.

The tournament, hosted by the Saint Louis Chess Club, awarded $350,000 in prizes.

So outlasted a world-class field and a thrilling three-way tie at the top that led to playoffs to decide it all.

He emerged victorious on home soil, claiming his second Sinquefield Cup title in nine years.

So's win marks his return to the Top 10, with a first place finish prize of $77,667.

GMs Praggnanandhaa R. from India and Fabiano Caruana from the United States fell just short in the playoffs, tying for second place with $67,667 each.

The top four players, including Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Fabiano Caruana, Levon Aronian, and Praggnanandhaa R., will battle for the championship crown at the GCT Finals in São Paulo, Brazil, starting September 28, 2025.

The GCT Finals will feature a $350,000 prize fund, with the winner claiming the title of GCT Champion.

So did not advance to the GCT Finals, but his win at the Sinquefield Cup solidifies his position as a top player.

The Saint Louis Chess Club's Youtube and Twitch channels will broadcast the GCT Finals live, featuring commentary from GMs Maurice Ashley, Yasser Seirawan, and Peter Svidler.
