Yordan Alvarez named Houston Astros' lone All-Star starter at DH

Yordan Alvarez was voted the American League’s starting Designated Hitter for the 2026 All-Star Game on 13 July, becoming Houston’s lone representative in the midseason showcase.

On 13 July, Yordan Alvarez was named the AL’s starting DH for the 2026 All-Star Game. The vote makes him the only Astros player selected to start in Seattle. Alvarez beat out four other AL DHs to claim the top spot.

The honor caps a first-half surge that put Alvarez among the AL’s top hitters. He leads Houston in RBIs and ranks second in slugging behind only teammate José Altuve. The selection also marks his second All-Star nod in three years.

Alvarez will join the AL squad in Seattle on 19 July. The game airs at 7:30 p.m. ET on Fox. His presence adds a Cuban power bat to a lineup already stacked with MVP-level talent.

The final tally saw Alvarez finish ahead of Kyle Tucker, Giancarlo Stanton, J.D. Martinez and Andrew Benintendi. The Astros’ slugger drew strong fan support to secure the top DH spot.
