Zinedine Zidane remains one of just 10 players in history to win football's ultimate treble: the Ballon d'Or, UEFA Champions League and FIFA World Cup. That elite group may soon expand to 11 if Spain's Rodri completes his own historic run in the 2026 World Cup final against Argentina this Sunday.

What’s at stake for Rodri?

The Manchester City star has already secured two-thirds of the treble. Rodri won the Champions League in 2023 as part of City’s historic treble season, then claimed the Ballon d’Or in 2024. A World Cup victory would make him only the second active player to join Zidane’s exclusive club, following Ousmane Dembele’s achievement last year.

Why Zinedine Zidane’s legacy matters

Zidane remains the only Frenchman on the list, having won the Ballon d’Or in 1998, the Champions League with Real Madrid in 2002, and the World Cup with France in 1998. His inclusion highlights the rarity of this achievement-only 10 players have ever managed it, including legends like Lionel Messi, Rivaldo, and Bobby Charlton.

What comes next for Spain?

Spain will face Argentina in New York on Sunday, July 20, 2026, in what promises to be a historic final. A win would give La Roja their second World Cup title after their 2010 triumph. For Rodri, it would cement his place among football’s greatest-right alongside Zinedine Zidane.
