Zlatan Ibrahimović blasts Man United keeper after World Cup error

Zlatan Ibrahimović has launched a scathing attack on Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens following Belgium’s World Cup quarter-final defeat to Spain. The former United striker blasted the decision to bring Lammens on as a late substitute, calling it a 'shameful' mistake by Belgium coach Rudi Garcia.

Lammens entered the game in the 71st minute after Thibaut Courtois was injured. Just 19 minutes later, he spilled a shot from Pau Cubarsi, allowing Mikel Merino to score Spain’s winning goal in the 88th minute. The error handed Spain a 2-1 victory and knocked Belgium out of the tournament.

Ibrahimović, speaking to Fox Sports, questioned why Lammens was chosen over Mike Penders. 'Why replace Courtois with Senne Lammens from Manchester United, while Mike Penders remains on the bench?' he asked. 'Is it because Lammens plays for Manchester United and Penders for Strasbourg? That’s not how you select a goalkeeper for a national team.'

The Swede also dismissed Lammens as 'overrated,' despite the keeper winning the Premier League’s best signing award this season. 'Lammens isn’t a good goalkeeper at this level,' Ibrahimović said. 'Penders is much better, and everyone can see it.'

Despite the criticism, Lammens has had a strong debut season at Manchester United. He secured the starting spot ahead of André Onana and Altay Bayındır, impressing fans with his composure. However, his World Cup blunder has drawn sharp rebukes from Ibrahimović, who also blamed Belgium’s coaching staff for the loss.

'Managing the situation so badly. It’s shameful,' Ibrahimović said. 'Shame on you, national team coach and goalkeeping coach.'

Lammens’ future at United remains secure for now, but the incident has sparked debate over his ability to handle high-pressure moments.
